Application: Hundreds of variations of printers and photocopiers
are assembled to customer order using Nuyts IAS
as flexible build-platforms. Material handling and
Work-In-Progress are minimised since  all component
parts are towed in a trolley on the back of the AGV.
The entire facility, including the test tooling and the
operator tool trolleys is on wheels, which enables
the clean room conditions, needed to build digital
products, to be maintained.
Xerox (UK) Production Line

The Xerox AGV's are controlled via an onboard PLC
and powered by 2 quickly removable, 12V batteries.
The 300Kg load is transferred gradually from the
towed trolley to the vehicle build platform during the
assembly cycle. The Dutch AGV's are also equipped
with a variable height build platform to cope with the
growing assembly, however the UK vehicles, with a
smaller product require only a fixed build platform.
The flexibility  of the Nuyts passive inductive guidance
system has already been demonstrated at Xerox,
since layout changes are common place to match an
rapidly increasing product demand.

Balder AGV

The Balda Werk GmbH,
Buende Germany

Standing over 2m in height - the Balda motormouse®
is part of a fully automatic, load-handling system that will
integrate directly with Balda's production control system.
The optically guided Balda AGV has been developed
to transport pallets of  mobile phone housings
manufactured by Balda for Nokia from the production
line to the warehouse facility. The finished moldings
are first removed from the machine die via an overhead
robot, and placed on a pallet on the second tier of a
two tier conveyor.

The Balda AGV then arrives at the one of the six
injection molding machines carrying empty pallets
ready to be filled. The vehicle loads them on to
the 600mm high, first tier  and proceeds to collect
the full, 20kg  pallets from the 1.2m high, second tier.
The conveyor on the lift table assists with the
transport of the pallets from the delivery conveyor.

The vehicle transports the completed cases along
its 120 m route and off loads them into the warehouse.
As soon as it receives information from the Balda
production control system, the  AGV collects the
appropriate empty pallets from the warehouse and
continues to its next workstation. Communication
between the control system and the Balda AGV is
through an 8 bit, infrared transmitter located at the
vehicle charging station.

Working 24 hours per day and 5 days a week, the
Balda AGV charges itself automatically either when
the batteries require re-charging, or when there are
no pallets waiting to be collected.

Application: AHT is a leading worldwide supplier of frozen food
storage units and chiller isles used by companies such as
Unilever and Mövenpick, and they are all manufactured
using Nuyts AGV's. The vehicles are used at 2 different
stages in production making almost 2000 trips/day between
them. The first application is a shuttling activity between
the condenser and the final assembly production lines.
The AGV's, fitted with 2m length roller conveyor's are
manually loaded and unloaded at each production line
transfer stations before reversing out from the station,
and returning.
Austria Haustechnik AG

The 3rd AGV is used to transport completed, packaged,
freezers from the assembly line to the docking bay ready
for shipping. The vehicle, equipped with a chain conveyor
on top of a lift table first moves along side the assembly
conveyer and negotiates the load transfer via an 8 bit
infrared transmitter.   After transferring the  load, the AGV
raises the freezer clear of the conveyor and proceeds
to the docking bay (or the product rework line -)  where
it loads the freezer onto another conveyor.
Upon completion, the AGV reverses clear of the conveyor,
rotates 90' back to its track, and cycles round, back to
the station.

Customer: AeroGo Europe NV
(AeroGo Inc.)

Location: Antwerp, Belgium

Production shift length:

'job' manufacture or small batches.

Production Route Length

Shuttle runs of up to 30m
Applications: Nuyts Engineering also supplies its guidance system to a
number of other AGV manufactures and suppliers and is
used throughout the world. The Nuyts passive inductance
guidance system is at the heart of the European Southern
Observatory's Telescope maintenance operation in Paranal,
Chile. Here, the system is used to guide an 8.2m diameter
telescope mirror into the mirror reflective-coating plant on a
virtually frictionless, air cushioned transport system with a
total weight of around 50 tons.
Click to enlarge The unique Nuyts guidance system is also in use at the Zenker
HausBau production plant in Michelstadt-Odenwald, Germany
to manufacture pre-fabricated houses. The transport, again
air cushioned measures 13m x 3m, and moves completed pre-fab
walls from the production line to the warehouse.
Vehicle communication is via radio transmission and each work
station has a  button to call the transporter when the assembly
is complete. When the transporter is full, it switches tracks and
navigates its way to the warehouse.

"Satified customers are our best salesmen"

Nuyts have installed AGV's in some of the most
demanding environments in the world and have
an extensive list of references to illustrate it.
